If You Are Looking for Ongoing Care
This page is for adults living with a bipolar disorder who want steady psychiatric care, whether you were told recently or have known for years. You might be settling into a plan, adjusting one that no longer fits, or looking for one provider to see at every visit. Dakota Psychiatric Care is a solo practice, so I am that provider each time.
Care can also be interrupted by ordinary life. A move, a provider who closed their practice, or a long gap since anyone reviewed your plan can leave you unsure where to start. If that is where you are, we begin with a free consult and an initial evaluation, then decide together how ongoing care with me would work.
What Follow-Up Sessions Review
Each follow-up runs 30 to 45 minutes and looks at how things have been since we last talked.
Progress Since Last Time
What has felt better, what has felt harder, and anything new at work, at home or in your health that bears on the plan.
Mood and Sleep Over Time
Highs, lows and the stretches in between, along with changes in sleep, energy and routine, so we can see patterns and not just single days.
How a Medication Is Working
How it fits into your days, what you have noticed since starting or changing it, and any questions you have about it.
Side Effects and Concerns
Anything that bothers you, small or large. If a side effect is severe or worrying, don't wait for a follow-up: contact the practice, and call 911 in an emergency.
Why Steady Follow-Up Matters
With a bipolar disorder, mood, energy and sleep can shift over time, and a single visit only shows one moment. Regular follow-up lets us see the pattern, talk about changes as they come, and adjust the plan together as your life changes around it.
None of this comes with a promise about results, because treatment affects each person differently. What follow-up gives you is a regular place to say how things are really going and a voice in every change to the plan. Follow-up is planned care, not emergency care, so if you are ever in crisis, call or text 988 or call 911.

Questions About Ongoing Care
How often will I have follow-up sessions?
It depends on your plan, and we work out the rhythm together. It can change as your needs do.
Can I bring notes about my mood and sleep?
Yes, please do. A few words a day about sleep, energy and mood can give us more to go on than memory alone.
I've seen other providers before. Do I have to start over?
You begin with the free consult and an initial evaluation, and your history is a real part of that. What you have tried before, and how it went, shapes the plan we make together.
