More Than Being Tidy

OCD gets joked about, so it can go years without a name. It can involve thoughts that frighten you and feel completely unlike you, along with checking, counting, cleaning, asking for reassurance or repeating things until they feel right.

I see teens and adults with OCD. You may feel embarrassed about the content of your thoughts. There is no judgment here about any of it.

An example from an ordinary day can help explain what you are dealing with. You might describe how much time a concern takes, what it interrupts, or what makes it difficult to move on to the next task. These details can give the conversation a starting point while leaving room for questions and details that are difficult to put into words.

It Can Sound Like This

  • I know it doesn't make sense, and I still have to do it.
  • I've checked the stove six times.
  • I'm scared of what these thoughts mean about me.

You can say these things in an evaluation. They help me understand what is going on, and I have no interest in judging them.

What the Evaluation Sorts Out

OCD can overlap with other conditions, so getting the picture right shapes the plan.

Obsessions

The unwanted thoughts or images and how often they show up.

Compulsions

What you do in response, visibly or in your head, and how much time it takes.

The Cost

What it has taken from work, school, relationships and rest.

Related Concerns

Anxiety and depression that often come along with it.

What Treatment Involves

Your plan is individualized and may include medication management along with supportive interventions.

What We Work Toward

The goal is more of your time and attention back in your own hands. Progress with OCD varies, and I won't give you a timeline I can't stand behind. We watch how things go and change the plan as needed.

Questions About OCD Care

Do you see teens with OCD?

Yes. I see teens from 13 to 17, young adults, adults and seniors.

I'm too embarrassed to say what my thoughts are.

You can start without the details, and we can go at your pace.

Is this the same as anxiety?

They often overlap, and the evaluation helps sort out what is what.
