Things You Might Say About It

  • It was so long ago. Why does it still get to me?
  • A door slams and my whole body jumps.
  • I keep people at arm's length and I'm not sure why.
  • Even on calm days, my body won't settle.

None of these need a full explanation before we talk.

For Adults Carrying Something Old

Some experiences don't stay in the past, even after years of getting on with life. It might be something from childhood, a relationship, an accident or a loss. You may have built a full life around it and still find it showing up in your sleep, in how easily you startle, or in how close you let people get.

You don't have to tell the whole story to get care. We work on how it affects you now, and you decide how much of the past we talk about. If you have tried to put it behind you and it keeps finding its way back, that deserves a conversation, not a judgment.

Where Old Trauma Can Show Up Now

The evaluation looks at your life today, because that is where the plan has to work.

Nights That Don't Rest

Trouble falling or staying asleep, dreams that bring it back, or waking up tense without knowing why.

A Startle That Runs High

Jumping at sudden sounds, keeping an eye on the exits, or feeling on edge in crowds, even when you know you are safe.

Relationships and Trust

Keeping people at a distance, bracing for things to go wrong, or finding closeness harder than you would like it to be.

A Body That Won't Settle

Tension in your shoulders or stomach, a racing heart, or a restlessness that rest doesn't touch. Depression and anxiety can travel alongside it too.

Starting Without Telling Everything

Each step lets you share at a pace that feels manageable.

Working With the Present

We can't change what happened, and care here doesn't ask you to relive it. What we work toward is understanding how it shows up in your life now and building a plan that makes sense to you, which may include medication management and supportive interventions such as CBT and DBT skills.

I won't give you a timeline, because there isn't an honest one to give, and each person's response to care is different. What you can count on is patience, plain language and a plan that stays open to change as we learn what helps.

Fees in Brief

The consult costs nothing. After that, the initial evaluation is $300 and each follow-up session is $125.

Questions About Old Trauma

It happened years ago. Is it too late to get help?

It is not too late. Old experiences can keep shaping sleep, mood and relationships, and how they affect you now is worth looking at.

What if I don't remember it clearly?

That's all right. Share what you know, even if it is patchy, and we work with that and with what is happening now.

Will talking about it stir everything up?

You set the pace, and you can pause or change the subject at any point. The focus stays on how things are for you now, not on retelling every detail.
