When Daytime Appointments Are Hard
If you work during the day, a psychiatric appointment can mean leaving early, using time off you were saving, or explaining to someone at work where you are going. If you work shifts, your free hours may move from one week to the next. Either way, it is easy to keep putting care off because the timing never seems right.
Evening appointments are available on request. They can help if you are home with a baby and would rather talk once another adult is there to help, or if stepping out during the day would raise questions you don't want to answer. Ask for an evening when you book, and we can work out what fits.
How to Ask for an Evening
Evening appointments are by request, so it helps to ask at each step.

- 1
Say So When You Reach Out
Mention evenings on the contact form, when you call, or during your free 15-minute phone consult, so the timing is part of the conversation from the start.
- 2
Plan for a Longer First Visit
The initial evaluation runs 60 to 90 minutes, in person at the Minot office or by telehealth. If you ask for an evening, try to keep the rest of it clear.
- 3
Ask Again as Care Goes On
Follow-up sessions run 30 to 45 minutes, and how often you have them depends on your plan. You can request evenings for those as well.
What an Evening Can Make Easier
An evening appointment can take some of the strain out of getting care.
Less Time Off Work
You may not need to leave early, trade a shift or use up time off you were saving for something else.
Privacy Around Your Job
You don't have to explain an empty afternoon to a manager or coworker. How much you share about your care at work stays your decision.
Another Pair of Hands
If another adult is home in the evening, the baby can be in other arms for a while, so you can talk without being pulled away.
Room to Think It Through
An appointment that isn't squeezed between errands or wedged in before a shift can give you space to say what has really been going on.
Care You Can Keep Up With
Psychiatric care isn't a single visit. After the initial evaluation, follow-up sessions are where we review how you are doing and adjust the plan, so it matters that the timing works beyond the first appointment. A schedule you can actually keep is part of a workable plan.
I can't promise a particular evening, and some weeks may not line up. What I can do is listen to what your schedule looks like and work with it where I can. Asking is the first step, and asking costs nothing.
Questions About Evening Appointments
Do I need a reason to ask for an evening?
Whatever the reason, you are welcome to ask. Work, a baby at home or a schedule that keeps changing are all reason enough.
Can an evening evaluation be by telehealth?
You can ask for that. The initial evaluation can be in person at the Minot office or by telehealth in North Dakota or Iowa.
What if my schedule changes after I book?
Please let the practice know at least 24 hours ahead. A cancellation made later than that, or a missed session, carries a $45 fee.
